The excitement of the first few snowfalls never quite wears off, even when you become older. The weatherman predicts a few flurries, and everyone waits impatiently to see the first fluffy white flakes drifting down lazily. The next few storms, the snow actually sticks to the ground and piles up into several inches. If you go to college in Minnesota or some other northern state, you’ll definitely experience piles of white powder everywhere. Many college students can’t resist the temptation to roll together a snow man (or maybe a snow monkey) or at least throw a few snowballs at unsuspecting walkers.
Ready for Snow Shock at College?
When attending a college in Wisconsin or any other place that gets significant snowfall, you’ll want to make time to enjoy the winter weather. Sure, the cold can make you shiver constantly, but the snow can provide infinite opportunities for fun. Maybe you’ll even get a day of from school if enough people are snowed in. Of course, you could shovel snow all over your teachers’ driveways and help the process along. Just don’t get caught, or else your grades could suffer. Take a break from the books and assignments and run around outside. Slide down hills on sleds (or boards or chairs or other creative devices you might think of). Maybe you could even rent some skis and take up cross-country skiing.
Some colleges hold contests to see who can build the best snow sculptures. Students come up with some incredible ideas. Maybe if your college does not have a contest like this, it could be time to start one. Students studying 3-D art could have a chance to exercise their education on a new medium. Unfortunately, their creations can’t withstand the onslaught of eventual warm weather or a few mischievous kicks. But people would enjoy seeing snow castles, models of buildings on campus, animals, and whatever else people come up with.
If you’re from the South and adventurously traveled to attend a university in Maine, you might be surprised and overwhelmed with all the snow. But you can see how the people that live in that climate adapt to the winter weather and endure it when snow stays on the ground like an unwelcome houseguest.
Don’t just sit back and work on homework all weekend when you have a chance to enjoy the snow. Take up a new hobby like skiing or snowshoeing. Take some pictures. Find some friends to enjoy the outdoors with, walking in a winter wonderland.
