Education and Teaching Career Highlights
What is a Teacher ?
Careers in education and teaching provide a great way to help students to learn and apply concepts learned in various classroom subjects. Here’s a brief look at some jobs you can obtain with a degree in education.
Elementary school teachers usually instruct a single class of children, ranging from five years old to twelve years old, in many different subjects. Their goal is to further the students’ vocabulary and language development, improve their social skills and introduce mathematical and scientific concepts. Elementary school educators teach their students by using several methods; they read with students, spend time individually with each student and have the students work together in small groups.
Secondary School Teachers, who teach on a high school level, instruct students between the ages of twelve and eighteen. They expose students to valuable information about the world around them and provide the knowledge and skills necessary to attend a postsecondary school. Secondary school teachers generally specialize in one specific subject. Their classes include mathematics, English, Spanish, chemistry, and history. These teachers also teach subjects that are focused toward careers.
Postsecondary School Teachers also teach students in several academic and vocational subjects well above the high school level. These courses lead to improved skills in academics and life in general and most result in a degree. The majority of postsecondary educators teach in colleges and universities. Because of advances in technology, these teachers must have developed technology skills that include general computer use, the internet, e-mail, and software programs. Jobs in most education-related careers are projected to grow much faster than the average rate for occupations over the next ten years. There will probably be a 38% increase in jobs through 2014.
