Connecticut Job Outlook

The state of Connecticut boasts an impressive college and university system that is one of the oldest in the nation. New Haven, Connecticut is home to Yale University, founded in 1701 and considered one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Yale is also among the most exclusive universities for undergraduates, with a 2009 acceptance rate of 7.5%. It is also one of the state’s largest employers and acts as a major draw for research facilities and scientific institutions.

The public university system of Connecticut has been ranked first among systems in the northeastern United States for the past eight years, according to U.S. News and World Reports. The University of Connecticut is one of the most renowned public institutions in the country and has an enrollment of approximately 21,000 undergraduates.

The United States Coast Guard Academy is also located in Connecticut and is one of only five federal service academies. Many private colleges and universities have existed for many generations, such as Trinity College (1823), Wesleyan University (1832), and Quinnipiac University (1929).

Connecticut’s public higher education system has an array of community colleges as well, with programs offering bachelor’s and associate’s degrees.
