Delaware Job Outlook
Despite being one of the smallest states in the nation, Delaware’s system of higher education offers a variety of degree programs for undergraduates.
Delaware’s economy has been the historical center of the nation’s pharmaceutical and chemical industries and fostered strong engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, and biochemistry departments throughout the state’s institutions. The University of Delaware is the largest university in the state and has an engineering program frequently among the top ten in the country. Over 15,000 undergraduates were enrolled at the school in 2009, with the largest student population at the flagship campus in Newark.
Other institutions in the state include Wesley University, Widener University School of Law, Delaware State University, and Drexel University at Wilmington. The state has a disproportionately large economy for its size and the University of Delaware is the second-largest employer, behind only the state government. Other industries prominent in the state include financial services, banking, education, and health care services.
