Idaho Job Outlook
The state of Idaho is home to a small number of universities and colleges, the majority of which are state-run institutions. Idaho’s economy has historically been focused on mining, agriculture (particularly potatoes), and outdoor recreation and tourism. The state is one of the fastest growing in the country, and the economy has begun modernizing with higher-end professions and industries.
The University of Idaho in Moscow is the largest and oldest university in the state, with an enrollment of nearly 12,000 students and an endowment of about $150 million. For 71 years UI was the only state university in Idaho, until the founding of Idaho State University in 1963. The University of Idaho also has the only ABA-approved law school in the state.
Among private institutions, Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston is the only 4-year private non-university in the state. Brigham Young University’s campus in Rexburg is also a privately-operated school owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Northwest Nazarene University is a private liberal arts college located in Nampa, Idaho, the second largest city in the state.
