Mississippi Job Outlook
Mississippi’s economy is traditionally a modest one. Important economic sectors in the state include agriculture (especially the production of cotton, soybeans, and rice), manufacturing, fishing, and the gambling industry, but unfortunately, Mississippi ranks last place in terms of per capita personal income. As such, however, it also boasts the lowest living costs of any state in the nation. And a low cost of living is something that any college student can appreciate.
Despite its lackluster economy, educational opportunities in Mississippi are numerous. In addition to the state’s 15 community colleges, there are also several four-year institutions, including both public and private schools. The state’s largest university, located partially in the city of Starkville, is Mississippi State University, with an enrollment of almost 20,000 students.
There are also many private colleges in Mississippi, a decided majority of which have religious affiliations or a religious background of some sort. These include, among others, such schools as Belhaven University, Blue Mountain College, Millsaps College, Mississippi College, and Rust College.
