Nevada Job Outlook
For being only the 35th most populous state, Nevada’s economy is surprisingly diverse. Arguably the most important component of the state’s economy is the tourism generated by resort towns such as Lake Tahoe, Laughlin, Reno, and of course, Las Vegas. However, in more rural areas, much revenue is also generated by cattle ranching and mining, especially gold mining.
In Nevada the majority of the colleges are public. The Nevada System of Higher Education includes three four-year schools, four community colleges, and one graduate-only research institute. The publicly run College of Southern Nevada community college is the state’s largest school with over 37,000 students.
There are also a few private colleges in Nevada, including Sierra Nevada University and Touro University Nevada, both four-year schools, and University of Southern Nevada, a mostly medical institution with a unique block scheduling system.
