The New England state of New Hampshire has a healthy economy dominated by tourism, the manufacturing of machinery, electric equipment, rubber, and plastic products, and agricultural components such as dairy products, cattle, eggs, nursery stock, and apples. It has the 7th highest average household income in the country, and it is home to many schools for prospective college students.

There are 23 total colleges in the state of New Hampshire. Five of these schools are public universities operated by the University System of New Hampshire and include the Ivy League school Dartmouth College, which is the oldest school in the state, having been founded before the American Revolution. The flagship state school largest in New Hampshire is University of New Hampshire in Durham, which has an enrollment of over 14,000 students.

There are also a number of community colleges, as well as private education opportunities. These include such small liberal arts schools as Colby-Sawyer College in New London and Saint Anselm College in Manchester, a Catholic institution.
