Utah Job Outlook
Although Utah is home to relatively few colleges and universities, the types of schools available in the state are very diverse. The state’s main university system is the Utah System of Higher Education, and its flagship institution, which also happens to be the oldest university in the state, is the University of Utah, also known simply as “the U.” There are also other public colleges and universities, including such schools as Weber State University and Southern Utah University, as well as public technical and two-year schools.
Private school options are somewhat limited, but they do exist. Some of Utah’s private schools advertise a religious affiliation, but others portray themselves are more secular. Examples of private four-year schools include Brigham Young University, Westminster College, and Webster University. There are also private two-year schools within the state, such as LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.
Utah’s economy covers a wide range of industries, and college graduates within the state have a number of important industries in which they could choose to work. The state economy’s main contributors include tourism, mining, agriculture, and petroleum production. Information technology and finance are also vital to the state’s economic health.
