Washington Job Outlook

The state of Washington, although not exceptionally large in terms of population, is large enough geographically to offer a number of post-secondary educational opportunities to prospective students. The largest university in the state is the University of Washington in Seattle, with a total enrollment of over 40,000 students. The school is also noteworthy in that it has been deemed a “Public Ivy,” a public institution that is considered comparable to the famous Ivy League schools in terms of student body intelligence, faculty merits, and other characteristics.

In addition to the University of Washington, there are dozens of other schools within the state, both public, private, and two-year. Examples of other well-known Washington schools include Bellevue College, Evergreen State College, Antioch University, and Pacific Lutheran University.

College graduates in Washington tend to enter careers in one of Washington’s main industries. The industries which support the state’s economy include financial institutions, lumbering, agriculture, services, and tourism. Manufacturing is also very important to Washington’s economic health, especially the manufacturing of aerospace equipment, food professing, and shipbuilding.
